Obituaries

Hester Marie Joyce Hollandsworth, 83, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 1, 2025. She was born on October 10, 1942, to the late George Calvin Joyce and Dovie Craig Joyce. In addition to her parents, Hester was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 50 years, Troy M. Hollandsworth, Jr.; her sisters, Mary Joyce Rea and Estelle Joyce Durham; and her parents, whom she loved dearly.

Hester was a graduate of Fieldale High School and faithfully served her community through her work with Henry County Public Schools in the Bassett High School cafeteria and earlier in life with Globman’s Department Store.

She was a faithful and devoted member of the Collinsville Church of Christ, where she worshiped with dedication and love. She found great joy in reading, crochet, cooking for her family, and caring for those she loved whenever she was able. Her heart was always happiest when her home was filled with family, laughter, and love.

She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved son, Troy Matthew Hollandsworth; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gary and Janice Hollandsworth; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, David and Hilda Hollandsworth; several nephews and nieces, including Mark Rea, Joel “Joe” Durham, Carl “Burt” Hollandsworth, Elizabeth (Beth) Shulam, and Lindsay Hollandsworth; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; and her devoted caregiver, Sherita Stanley.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the love, care, and kindness shown to Hester during her life.
