Obituaries

Howard Russell Martin, Sr., 83, of Kernersville, North Carolina, transitioned to his heavenly home Wednesday, April 8, 2026. He was born August 10, 1942, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Rubin Hage Martin and Lelia Brown Martin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mabel Louise Norman Martin; daughter, Kim Lawan Martin; sisters, Martha Martin, Mattie Martin, Lula Martin Price, Amberette Hairston; and brothers, Fletcher Martin and James Martin.

Howard was a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was a devoted Deacon of the church. He was an avid golfer and also loved to travel. Most of all, he loved his family and spending time with them, especially his grandchildren. His life has left a lasting memory on this earth, and he will always be remembered with great respect, admiration, and fondness.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Vince Martin (Chama), Howard Russell Martin, Jr. (Elena); brothers, Rubin Martin (Ramona), John Henry Martin, Chauncey Martin (Doretha); six grandchildren and three great grandchildren; with numerous extended family, church family and friends.

A funeral will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, at 11:00 AM with Minister Harold Carelock officiating. Interment will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held one hour prior to service.
