Obituaries

Howell Franklin Shrader, Sr., 83, of Ridgeway, Virginia, entered his heavenly rest Thursday, May 7, 2026. He was born on October 8, 1942, in West Virginia, to the late Howell Havens Shrader and Marjorie Riggs Shrader.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Rachael Cox Shrader; and daughter, Susan Gauldin.

Howell attended Montcalm High School in West Virginia and had a fulfilling career for 36 years at Prillaman-Pace Plumbing. Howell was of the Christian faith and a member of Wayside Baptist Church. Known to everyone as a man of faith, he demonstrated his faith through his gentle strength. He showed kindness to others, always willing to help to the point of “giving the shirt off his back” to anyone who might need it. His faith was a priority, and he found it easy to share the gospel. Although his earthly presence is no longer here, his legacy of love and laughter will always live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Goodin (Jerry); son, Howell Franklin Shrader, Jr.(Janet); seven grandchildren; and thirteen great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Wayside Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Cox Family Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
