Obituaries

Janet W. Gill, 84, of Bassett, Virginia, transitioned from this earthly life Wednesday, March 25, 2026. She was born on March 16, 1942, in Ridgeway, Virginia, to the late Clyde Benjamin Watkins and Annie Mae Purdy Watkins.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Marvel “Richard” Gill; stepsons, Mike Gill, Ronnie Gill; sisters, Pauline Jones, Eva Brannen, Debra Price, Gladys Sheffield, Eunice Burnette; and brothers, RobJack Watkins, Bill Watkins, Maynard Watkins, Donnie Gene Watkins, and Glen Watkins.

Janet was of the Baptist faith and a faithful, long-standing member of Lexwin Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, where she sang in the choir and found a loving faith community. She worked many years as a dietician in the Forsyth County School System. She loved reading, but her faith was strengthened daily by reading the Bible and other Christian books. Janet was a woman of varied interests who found joy in traveling, sewing, and playing the piano. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever be remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sister, Scheryl Wells (Charles); brother, Doug Watkins (Mildred); five step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
