Janie Frances Adkins, 87, of Axton, Virginia, passed away on April 23, 2026. She was born in Franklin County, Virginia, on May 26, 1938, to the late John Samuel Bernard and Litha Anne McBride Bernard.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Adkins; sister, Vergie Smith, Mary Wells; and brothers, James Bernard, Ernest Bernard, and John Bernard.

Janie’s life was marked by kindness. Her gentleness was seen in the care she showed to others, as well as in her love for animals. Her favorite pastimes included reading, sewing, and listening to bluegrass music.

Janie is survived by her son, Samuel Adkins; three grandchildren, Cheri Fillion, Bill Galyean, and Peter Smith; and three great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 5:00-6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel.
