Obituary For John "David" Cuthbertson

John “David” Cuthbertson, 78, of Horsepasture, Virginia and Sarasota, Florida passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at his home in Sarasota. John, better known as David, was born on June 22, 1947, in Grundy, Virginia, to Robert (Bob) Lee Cuthbertson and Geneva Cosby Hagerman Cuthbertson.

David was a graduate of Garden Creek High School. Following high school, he attended Roanoke Bible College obtaining a Bachelor of Science degree in Theology and Hermeneutics. He then attended Kentucky Christian College obtaining a Master of Ministry degree. His ministry career of 55 years led him to establish or serve numerous churches throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. He faithfully served as Senior Minister at Horsepasture Christian Church for a total of 32 years, where he retired in 2023.

David was a dedicated leader in the Christian community, serving as President of the Virginia Evangelism Fellowship as well as on the board of trustees for Roanoke Bible College. Additionally, David served on the Planning & Oversight Committee for the North American Christian Convention and was a proud member of the Horsepasture Ruritans.

David is survived by his wife of 3 years, Alisa; 2 sons, Bryan and Christopher (Teresa); 2 stepchildren Kellie (David) Miller and James Yates; 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Brenda “Dottie” Cantrell.

David was preceded in death by his father, Robert “Bob” Lee Cuthbertson; his mother, Geneva Cosby Hagerman Cuthbertson; and his 1st wife of 54 years Lynda Louise Smith Cuthbertson.

Services in Florida will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026 at 2pm at New Day Christian Church, 6221 Proctor Road, Sarasota, FL 34241. Services will also be held in Virginia at Horsepasture Christian Church on Friday, March 6, 2026. Visitation is planned from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with the memorial service starting at 11:30 AM Graveside service will follow.
