Obituaries

Joseph Eugene Deatherage,II., 50, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, January 28, 2026. He was born June 12, 1975, in Martinsville, Virginia to Gerald “Jerry” Eugene Deatherage.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Judy Marie Deatherage.

Joseph was of the Christian faith. He was a 1993 graduate of Martinsville High School and later earned his associate’s degree in Criminal Justice from Danville Community College. He was employed by Aarovic Signs for ten years, showing dedication and a strong work ethic. Joseph held a black belt in karate, he held the East Coast Championship for five years in both form and fighting. He cherished fishing with his father, shared his love for classic cas, and was an avid NASCAR fan; whether in person, on television, or by radio, he was happy to be a part of it. Most of all, Joseph loved giving of himself and his time to help others, and he was known for his amazing heart.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his Siberian Husky companion, Max; sisters, Elizabeth Henson (Duke), Stephanie Reynolds Price (Mike); brothers, Brian Wilson, Michael Wilson (Sara); a host of aunts, uncles, extended family, and friends.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Rusty Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
