Larry Justice Swanson, Sr., 85, of Axton, Virginia, entered his heavenly rest Thursday, February 19, 2026. He was born on May 14, 1940, in Axton, Virginia, to the late Albert Sidney Swanson and Rosie Belle Haislip Swanson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, Larry Justice Swanson, Jr.; brothers, William Swanson, Landon Swanson, Melvin Swanson, Harold Swanson, John Swanson, Albert Sidney Swanson, Jr.; sisters, Bendella Hylton, Kathleen Latham, Coreen Swanson; and his first wife, Mildred Swanson.

Pastor Larry was a man of Christian faith and a member of New Sharon Grove Baptist Church. His life reflected his love for the Word of God, and he eagerly preached the gospel. He was employed by Hooker Furniture for 15 years. Pastor Larry’s family has fond memories of his love for drinking soda and his appreciation for cars. He was an independent person and he faithfully demonstrated a deep love for his family.

He is survived by his wife, Viola Elizabeth Hairston Swanson; daughter, Rosanelle Chaney; son, Charles Galloway; stepson, Jerome Galloway (Rachel); stepsister, Mary Artis (James); and eight step-grandchildren.

The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support that have been shown during their time of grief.
