Laura “Ruth” Aliff, 78, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Friday, March 27, 2026. She was born July 18, 1947, in Wythe County, Virginia, to the late James Edward Aliff and Laura Emily Dalton Aliff.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Wayne Matthew Aliff; sisters, Jane Elizabeth Farmer, Clara Bell Aliff, Lillian Mae Farmer, Annie Marie Aliff; and brother, James Vernon Aliff.

Ruth worked in the textile industry for many years, with her career including Standard Garments, Lacy’s, Sarah Lee, Pannells, and Springs, where she later retired. She enjoyed shopping at yard sales and thrift stores and going out to eat for a good meal. She collected unicorns, elephants, antique dolls, and a wide variety of purses. Though small in stature, Ruth had a presence you couldn’t miss. She loved her family deeply and was devoted to them.

She is survived by her four nieces; one nephew; several great nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Although all services will be private, the family wishes to extend their gratitude for the kindness and support shown during their time of grief.
