Lesley Leonard Staples, Jr. “June Bug,” 66, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 15, 2026. He was born October 10, 1959, in Greensboro, North Carolina, to the late Lesley Leonard Staples, Sr. and Frances Ellen Smith Staples.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Kathy Staples and Patricia Martin.

Lesley was a NASCAR fan and loved fishing, as well as the Green Bay Packers. He had a great sense of humor, and loved to tell jokes even as a child. He had a big heart, taking care of all of his sisters. During snowstorms, he shoveled the sidewalks and driveways of the neighbors and used the money he earned to buy bread, bologna, chips, and drinks for all of the family, keeping enough money to buy himself one candy bar. Lesley kept the fires going all night to keep the famiy warm.

He is survived by his wife and soulmate of 38 years, Ginger Swinney; daughter, Catherine Diane Churchill (Kim); son, Jason Staples (Tracy); sisters, Ellen Divers (David), Barbara Grimes (Donnie), Callie Watts (Donnie), Mary Nester, very special sister, Jean Andrade (Shorty); brother, Robert Staples and special best friend and brother, David Staples (Pam); stepchildren, DeeDee Thompson, Dana Campbell (Chuck), Stevie Harris (Christina); grandchildren, Dustin Ryder Staples, Hailey Michelle Staples; special grandchildren, Carl Liston, David Doyle Looney; several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel with storyteller, Jennifer Bitz, presiding over the service. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service from 5:00-7:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Lesley Leonard Staples, Jr. to Wright Funeral Service & Crematory.
