Obituaries

Melvin Reed Bryant, 78, of Martinsville, Virginia, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 28, 2026. He was born December 1, 1947, in Danville, Virginia, to the late David Grove Bryant and Katleen Richardson Bryant.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roger Bryant.

Melvin was of the Baptist faith and a member of Fairway Baptist Church in Bassett, Virginia. He worked for VDOT for more than thirty years. He was known for helping others and would give the shirt off of his back. He loved animals and enjoyed his Harley and his 1997 Mustang, which he took pride in. he was a strict but loving father to Renea, and everything he did was out of love for her. When they made him, they broke the mold; they sure don’t make people like him anymore.

He is survived by his daughter, Renea Rogers (William “Ray” Handy), fur baby, Midnight; brothers, Joel Bryant and David Bryant; many nieces; nephews; cousins; extended family and friends; grand-puppies, Bella, Spencer, and Pebbles.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at 2:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor A.C. Palmer officiating. A visitation will be held one-half hour prior to memorial service.
