Obituary For Norma Jean Cooper
Norma Jean Stalnaker Cooper, 80, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Monday, April 6, 2026. She was born September 20, 1945, in Akron, Ohio to the late Argil Bill Stalnaker and Gladys Monroe Stalnaker.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Bobby Cooper.
Norma was employed by Bassett-Walker for many years as a seamstress. Before returning to work, she dedicated her time as a stay-at-home mother, raising her children and creating a loving home. She also taught Sunday School and valued her faith. She was a Godly woman who loved her Lord and Savior. Norma enjoyed cooking and baking for her family, watching Jimmy Swaggart and westerns, and spending time with her word search books; often buying them by the dozen. She loved her children, grandchildren, and family more than anything and cherished the time spent with them. She also enjoyed time with her friends at Barrows Mill Apartments. Norma was well known for her peanut butter fudge; once you tried it, you couldn’t get enough of it. She had a gift for playing the accordion, something she truly loved and was phenomenal at. She was a dignified woman who carried herself with strength, but she also had a sense of humor and knew how to enjoy life.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Biggs (Roger) son, David McCloy, Jr. (Angie); sister Carol Sue Vincent (LeRoy); grandchildren, Hunter Biggs (Bella), Chase Biggs (Brooke), Cooper Biggs & Terri Lynn Bancroft, Blake McCloy, Brooke Wheeler (Tommy), Blaine Atkins (Libby), Kody Helbert, and Kimberly Helbert; six great- grandchildren; special nieces, Kim Ball (Charlie) , Angela Leach (Tim); and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service – Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Jackie Poe officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville Virginia. A visitation will be held Monday, April 13, 2026, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service – Martinsville Chapel.
