Obituaries

Norman Haynes of Bassett, Virginia , passed away March 30, 2026. Norman lived a blessed and fulfilled life. He was born in Bassett, Virginia, graduated from Bassett High and the Army as a young man. He married Ellene Norton Moore and moved to Jacksonville, Florida, where he raised five kids and he worked for Bellsouth Telephone Company. After retiring he moved back to his hometown of Bassett where he enjoyed spending time with his mom and dad and his brothers and sisters. Norman enjoyed fishing, auto racing and rabbit hunting with his brother and his friends. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Guy Wright Haynes and Elsie Clark Haynes, his wife, Ellene Norton Moore Haynes, two sisters, Alma Adams and Helen Feazell.

Mr. Haynes is survived by his daughter, Janice Clark (David Strickland), four sons; Bill Moore (Janice), Mike Moore (Jody), Woody Haynes (Jackie) and Rob Haynes (Colette), 11 Grandchildren, 10 Great-Grandchildren and a brother, Ronnie Haynes (Mary).

A Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Hwy, Bassett, VA. with a Graveside Service to follow at 2:30 PM with Military Rites in Mount Hermon Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 144 Mount Hermon Church Road, Bassett, VA with Pastor David Boarman officiating.
