Obituaries

Philip Woodson Koger, 84, of Henry, Virginia, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was born on May 15, 1941, to the late Jack Koger and Christine Wright Koger.

Philip was a good Christian man who loved spending time with his family and was well known as the jokester of the group. He enjoyed cheering for the Virginia Tech Hokies, was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees, and faithfully supported the Washington Redskins long before their name changed to the Commanders. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and friend.

Philip worked for DuPont until its closure and later continued his career as a carrier for Bank Services. He honorably served his country in the United States Marines.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 25 years, Nellie Sue Koger; his son, Brad Koger; his daughter, Diana Spencer; two sisters, Lois DeHart and Anne Biernacki; his niece, Susan DeHart (Gary); his beloved fur baby, Angie; and a host of other family members and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at 11:00 AM at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel, with Pastors Steve Tilley and John Hashew officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
