R. Wayne Johnson, 83, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2026. He was born in Virginia on June 2, 1942, to the late Louis Baley Johnson and Mary Tatem Johnson.

Wayne was a man of Christian faith and attended Northside Christain Church and Rich Acres Christian Church. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964 and a master’s degree a year later from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. He worked many years in a fulfilling career as a professional engineer land surveyor. He was a man of diverse interests, enjoying watching and playing sports. Wayne particularly enjoyed softball and played the sport until he was nearly 65 years old. He watched sports of every kind all the time, to the point of avoiding commercials by watching a different sports channel. His favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and the Washington Redskins.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Livesay Johnson; daughters, Dianne Carter (Doug), Kathy Breth (Bruce), Amy Stout (Jay); son, Bobby Johnson, Jr. (Lisa); brother, L. Doug Johnson; grandchildren, Doug (Nicole), Janie, Robert (Tara), Isaac (Rebecca), Kyle (Niamh), Stella, Ann-Marie, Alivia, Noah; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

The Johnson family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support that has been shown during their time of grief.

A memorial will be held at Northside Christian Church in Yorktown, Virginia on March 24, 2026 at 1:00pm.

The family will be accepting local friends at the home of Wayne and Ann Johnson on Friday, March 6, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM.
