Richard James Hairston, 69, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. He was born on November 6, 1956, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Zachary Hairston and Mary Louise Farris Ramey.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Hairston, Jr.; his sister, Bernita Taylor; and brother, Taylor Farris.

Richard was a graduate of Martinsville High School. He worked at Southern Furnishing for many years. He enjoyed fishing and watching football, where he cheered on the Washington Commanders.

He is survived by his spouse, Tamma Renea Belcher Hairston; daughter, Jasmine Hairston; sisters, Sharon Barksdale (Wendell), Pamela Carter (Fred), Annette Watkins (Ernest), and Antoinette Ingram (Willie, Jr.); brothers, Danny Eugene Hairston (Denise), Albert Ramsey (Tuwanda); four grandchildren, Dylunn “D.J.” Hairston, Ahleeya Hairston, Willow Spencer, and Zion Galloway; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.

Although services are private, the family wishes to express their profound gratitude for all of the love, prayers, and many good deeds sent their way during this time of grief.
