Obituaries

Roger “Dale” Atkins, 70, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on November 19, 2025. He was born August 24, 1955, in Martinsville Virginia, to the late Harold Atkins and Lolene Ingram Atkins.

In addition to his parents , he was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Suzanne Williams; and sister, Janice Dillon and brother-in-law, Marvin Dillon.

Dale led a straightforward and simple life. He possessed a kind and generous spirit and enjoyed assisting others whenever possible. Dale had a passion for fishing and relished sharing his catches. He cherished moments with his fur baby, his dog, “Taz,” as well as with family and friends whenever the opportunity arose. Additionally, Dale was a dedicated collector of firearms, and he had a fondness for sweets, particularly chocolate éclair.

Left to cherish his memory, are his daughter, Jessica Carswell (Matt); stepson, Jamie Earles (Samantha); sisters, Jackie Johnston, Dianne Anderson ( Mark); bother, Lee Atkins (Teresa); ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; several nieces and nephews; a very special friend, Pat Craig; with numerous extended family and friends.

A memorial service will be held Monday, November 24, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel with Pastor Troy Mays officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
