Obituaries

Sherene Penn, 67, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered her eternal rest Thursday, January 29, 2026. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, on November 24, 1958, to the late Wright Chance, Sr. and Juanita Page Chance.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Penn; her daughter, Lashonda Lovitt; and her sister, Valene.

Sherene was a woman of Christian faith and a member of House of Purpose in Bassett, Virginia, where she loved attending church, reading her Bible, and singing. She attended Windsfall Junior and Senior High School and worked ten years as an inspector for Quality Control Manufacturing Company. Sherene had a heart for the Lord and demonstrated it through giving and helping others. Her greatest joy was found in caring for her family whom she loved deeply. Her absence has left a void that will be impossible to fill, but her legacy of love and faith will always be remembered.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jeremy Penn and Ronnie Lovitt; sisters, Carolyn and Rose; brothers Antone and Wright Chance, Jr.; and three grandchildren, Malah Lovitt, Ronnie Lovitt, Jr., and Kayla Lovitt.

Although services will be private, the family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support that has been shown during their time of grief.
