Obituaries

Stephens “Stevie” Minter Smith, 97, of Martinsville, VA passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Mulberry Creek Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was born on June 25, 1928, in Roanoke, VA to the late Ernest Stephens Minter and Ruth Walker Minter. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph “Joe” D. Smith; son, Raymond Lee Elliott, Jr.; sisters, Doris Minter Hill and Angielene Minter Glascock.

She was a longtime member of Chatham Heights Baptist Church and loved tending to her garden and spending time outdoors.

Stevie is survived by her stepdaughters, Betty Jo Smith Haynes and Joyce Lee Smith Laine; step-granddaughter, Stacey Jo Williams; nieces, and nephews, Valerie Glascock, Karen Harris (Wayne), Russell Glascock (Linn), Bo Glascock (Pam), and Steve Hill.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 15, 2026, with Pastor Mike Hatfield officiating at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Roselawn Burial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Chatham Heights Baptist Church, 1235 Chatham Heights Rd, Martinsville, VA 24112.
