Obituary For Walter Douglas Street

Walter passed away peacefully from this life the morning of April 20th at Stanleytown Health and Rehab in Bassett, Virginia while dealing with declining health. Prior to going to Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center, Walter lived and was supported by his brother and caregiver, Richard at his home in Bassett.

Walter was 74 years old. He was born and grew up in Bassett to the late Paul Street and Ida Bell Street Berger. He spent his adult years as a skilled carpenter. He was a faithful member of Star of Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church until he was unable to attend. Walter loved being out in nature’s habitat, hunting, and fishing. During his earlier years, he would travel to Canada with his friends just to hunt and fish.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Walter is survived by his wife, Renita Street; his five children: Tammy Dove (daughter of Myra Gale Hampton), Danielle Loving (daughter of Frances Brown), YeAira Wells (daughter of Denita Wells Starkey), Walter Street, Jr. (son of Renita Street), and Tyler Hairston (son of Deborah Hairston); and six grandchildren, Maya Dove, Mevin Dove III, JacQueze Hairston, Layla Wells, Zola Wells-Hopkins, and Marley Douglas Street. Walter also leaves behind four siblings, James A. Street (Helena), Richard Street, Linda Sykes (Rickie), Mary Robinson (Leroy), and Don Street (Lisa), as well as a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
