Obituaries

Wayne Dalton Soots, 82, of Axton, VA passed away on Friday, April 3, 2026. He was born on June 15, 1943, in Henry County, VA to the late Katherine Overton Soots and Dalton Cornell Soots. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, John Wayne Soots; brother, Ralph Soots; sister, Joan Soots Wilson; brothers-in-law, Claude Wilson and Donald Haley.

Mr. Soots was a devoted and longtime member of Carroll Memorial United Methodist Church, where he played an active role in many aspects of church life. He was a member of the choir and was often called upon to speak on Sundays. He also served faithfully as a trustee. Known for his beautiful singing voice, he brought joy and inspiration to those who heard him.

Beyond his involvement in the church, Mr. Soots had a passion for building and creating. He was highly skilled in his work, taking pride in perfecting every detail. His strong work ethic was evident in his more than forty years of dedicated service at Stone Container Corporation.

Surviving is his loving wife, Martha Wilson Soots; sister, Barbara Soots Haley; and a host of extended family.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at Norris Funeral Services with Pastor Palmer Lowery officiating. Burial will be following the service at Roselawn Burial Park.
