Obituaries

William Allen Mitchem, 62, of Collinsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2026. He was born on October 28, 1963, in Havre de Grace, Maryland to the late Joyce Annette Smith Carpenter and Billie Mitchem.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela McReynolds; niece, Krystal McReynolds; and paternal grandparents, Isaac Mitchem and Winnie Ann Mitchem.

William was of the Christian faith. He worked several years as a Retail Store Manager. William was an absolute fighter who fought cancer multiple times and never gave up, even after beating cancer and it returning. He refused to let cancer win. He was a tough man that was always a prankster and stubborn, even at his worst. He was an avid Dale Earnhart fan who loved Lynyrd Skynyrd, Bob Segar, and an iced cold beer.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Lou Bowman Mitchem; his Children, Billy Mitchem (Kendall), Rebecca Leviner (Joshua), Michele Farmer (Ryan), and Kayla Montgomery (Chris); brothers, Dennis Mitchem (Page), Jeffery “Jeff” Mitchem, John Mitchem (Libby); step brothers, Donald Carpenter and Thomas Carpenter; brother-in-law, Ray McReynolds; grandchildren, Shawn Mitchem, Bailey Mitchem, Terry Leviner, Peyton Leviner, Mason Leviner, Nathan Farmer, Madison Famer, Landon Montgomery, Allison Montgomery, and Evelyn Montgomery; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

The funeral will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel with Pastor Travis Cassell officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. A visitation will take place one hour prior to the service.
