Obituaries

William Bennett Martin, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2026. Born on June 9, 1930, he was the son of the late Dewey C. Martin and Helen Virginia Bartley Martin.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his brother, George M. Martin; and his sisters, Frances Frazier, Betty Woods, and Allean Lilly.

William proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, a service he carried with honor and dignity throughout his life. He will be remembered as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose quiet strength, kindness, and love for his family left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his son, Barry M. Martin; his daughters, Donna J. Barbour (Thomas), Deanna Byrne, and Valerie Giles (Richard); several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his brother, Howard Martin; several nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Barbara Downs.

William’s family will forever treasure the memories shared with him and the love he gave so freely.

There will be a visitation on Thursday, June 4, 2026 from 12:30 pm – 1:00 pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home located at 5731 Airport Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24012. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with interment at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens.
