Obituaries

Yvonne Newman Harris, 74, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered her heavenly rest Thursday, March 5, 2026. She was born on December 3, 1951, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Otis William Newman and Joyce Thompson Newman.

Yvonne was a woman of faith and a member of First Baptist in Collinsville, where she found great joy in volunteering at the church. She was a dedicated employee at Fiber Container where she worked for 23 years as an office manager. She was part of the Collinsville Jaycettes, enjoyed walking, and loved traveling, especially to the beach. Her grandchildren were her world, and she was always happy to spend time with them.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 57 years, Thomas Franklin Harris; daughters Belinda Ashworth (Todd), Felecia McBride; sisters, Theresa Jones (Gary), Cindy Vernon; grandchildren, Luke Ashworth(Megan) , Cory Ashworth (Gia), and Savannah McBride; and great-grandchildren, Liam Zuniga, and Tommy Ashworth.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, March 14, 2026, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church, 3339 Virginia Avenue, Collinsville, Virginia with Pastor Larry Cheek officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.

In leiu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in memory of Yvonne Harris to First Baptist Church, 3339 Virginia Avenue, Collinsville, Virginia 24078 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to express their appreciation to Mountain Valley Hospice for the care and compassion shown, ensuring that Yvonne’s final days were ones of comfort, peace, and dignity.
