Schools ask for more local funding; proposed real estate tax drops

Martinsville City School Superintendent Zeb Talley presented the new school budget to City Council at New College Institute last night. The presentation comes with an increase of $158,000 in additional local funding. The finance team has adjusted the new proposed real estate tax rate down from 82 cents to 77 cents per $100 of assessed value, due to adjusted revenue projections.
