Obituaries

Barbara Jean Spencer Allen, 76, of Martinsville, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home Friday, August 29, 2025. She was born August 23, 1949, in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Earleen Ruby Lankford Spencer and Johnnie David Spencer.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Edwin Allen; and one brother, Doyle Wayne Spencer.

Barbara was a member of Keafortt Memorial Church and was active in her church. She enjoyed attending worship services and faithfully sending out birthday cards within her church family, always making sure others felt loved and appreciated. Her caring spirit extended way beyond the church walls. Barbara dedicated more than twenty years of her life to the textile industry and often worked two jobs to provide for her family and ensure their needs were met. She cherished spending time with her grandchildren and she loved the simple joys in life, working in her flowers, working on puzzles, cooking (her chicken and dumpling were an absolute treat). She looked forward to and enjoyed her outings, playing BINGO and trips to the famers market with her bestie, Anne. She was a woman of faith, hard work, and love who will greatly be missed.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Sharon Young (Ray); son, Toney Seay; grandchildren, Amanda Hylton, Nicholas Dillon, Tanner Whitehead, Tonya Rowe, Christopher Amos, Sara Seay, Brittney Amos, Jerry Seay, Ethan Seay, and Anthony Seay; great grandchildren, Harlee Hylton, Addison Hylton, Kendyl Hylton, and seven additional great grandchildren; a special cousin and friend, Anne Priddy; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112, with Pastor Dean White officiating. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
