Obituaries

Bernice Hazel Preston Millner, 87, of Ridgeway, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home Sunday, August 24, 2025. She was born March 9, 1938, in Axton, Virginia to the late Raish Preston and Thelma Jones Preston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Webster Millner; sisters, Daisy Mae Martin and Carlene Martin; brothers, Larry D. Preston, James L. Preston, and Raish Preston, Jr.

Bernice was as cherished member of Bethel Way Church of Christ, Inc., under the leadership of Bishop John A. Campbell, Jr., and a proud graduate of Carver High School. She dedicated more than thirty years serving others as a CNA. Bernice found great joy in attending church and worshiping. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, dancing, and gardening. Her greatest joy was found in caring for and loving her family. She will be forever remembered for her loving heart that she so freely shared with others.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Shirl Seay-Gravely (Bishop Joe), Thelma Hairston (Sebastian), Carolene Belcher-Marshall (Keith), Kimberly Preston-Scales (Derek); bonus daughter, Sandra Benton-Reynolds; son, Kenny Preston; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Friday, August 29, 2025, at 11:30 AM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel, 1230 Oak Level Road, Bassett, Virginia 24055, with Bishop Joe Gravely officiating. The family will receive friends and extended family at the following locations:

1110 A Street, Martinsville, Virginia 24112 (Carolene) and 8538 Axton Road, Ridgeway, Virginia 24148 (Kimberly).
