Obituary For Earl Lee Arthur
Earl Lee Arthur, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at his home. He was born on December 29, 1935, to the late Jack Arthur and Frances Doss Walker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Arthur; his daughter, Julie Doss; his grandparents, Henry C. Doss and Nannie H. Doss; and his two sisters, Fanny Ellis and Lucille Newman.
Earl was a member of Stanleytown Amazing Grace Baptist Church. He retired after many years of dedicated service from Stanley Furniture and was a lifetime member of the Bassett Fire Department, where he proudly served his community. Earl also had a love for NASCAR and he worked with several local race teams.
He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather whose life was centered around his family and the people he loved. He was known for his strength, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his sister, Gladys Arthur Long; his children, Debra Arthur, Danny Arthur (Ginger), Posey Arthur (Donna), and Betty Jo Ransome (Louis); his grandchildren, Joseph Arthur (Crystal), April Arthur (McClain), Kayla Shelton Hambrick, Jonathan W. Shelton (Lesley), Hannah Doss-Lamb (Brian), Savannah Doss, and Sarah Doss; his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Riley, Raylan, Mason, Maverick, Willow, Charlotte, Benjamin, and Charlotte Snow; his great-great-grandchild, Little Richard III; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who will forever hold his memory close.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Carilion Hospice and other caregivers who assisted with his care.
