Obituaries

Evelyn Carol Rigney, 81, of Axton, Virginia, passed away Saturday, August 30, 2025. She was born July 27, 1944, in Wise County, Virginia to the late Emory William Sigman and Caroline Price Sigman.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca Ann Cordova; son, Kenneth Dale Rigney; sisters, Betty Moore and Lynn Raizor; brothers, Bob Sigman, Carson Sigman, Bill Sigman, and Ralph Sigman.

Evelyn worked in the textile and furniture industries for more than sixty-five years as a machine operator, seventeen of those years she was employed by Comfort Living, where she continued to work until she was eighty-one years of age. She worked for many years at American Furniture as wells as Bassett Furniture, always taking pride in her work. Evelyn was known for being opinionated and stubborn, often set in her ways, yet those who truly knew her best also saw her big heart and wonderful sense of humor. Above all, she was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved her family deeply and cherished the time spent with them.

She is survived by her daughter, Leslie Rigney; son, Steven Rigney, Linwood Rigney (January); sisters; Becky Maine, Donna Williams; brothers, Gary Sigman, Roger Sigman; grandchildren, Austin Rigney, (Sarah), Dylan Rigney, Landon Rigney, Cody Rigney, Christopher Rigney, Ryan Rigney (Mirissa), Kacie Rigney, Steven Rigney, Samantha Church (Bruce), Michael Watts (Brandie); sixteen great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

The funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. Interment will follow at Roselawn Burial Park, 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
