Obituary For Herman Ross Hale

Herman Ross Hale, 85, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on August 26, 2025.

Born to the late Dillard and Eula Hale, Herman grew up with a strong sense of family and faith. He was preceded in death by his brothers Carson Hale, Irvin Hale, and Buford Hale.

Herman proudly served his country in the United States Army for three years. Following his service, he dedicated 28 years to Fieldcrest, where he retired with the respect and friendship of many he worked alongside. Outside of work, his true passion was woodworking. He was known for his craftsmanship, creating beautiful furniture and handmade tinkertoys that brought joy to many.

Herman was a man of Baptist faith who lived with quiet strength, kindness, and devotion to his family.

He is survived by his loving wife, Martha Darlene Hale; his children Todd Hale (April Wright) and Terry Hale (Beth); his grandchildren Cameron Hale, Paxton Hale, and Gavin Hale (Nancy Turner Hale); his great-grandchild Wren Hale; his sister, Christine McAlexander; and his sister-in-law, Nancy Louise Hale.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home, 30 Riverside Dr, Bassett, Virginia 24055. The funeral service, led by Pastor Tim Wood, will follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Roselawn Burial Park.

Pallbearers will be Paxton Hale, Gavin Hale, Cameron Hale, Bill Stout, Steve Hale, and Wesley Mayhew.

The family wishes to thank friends and loved ones for their support during this time.
