Obituaries

Ruby Mosel Smith Morton, 92, of Ridgeway, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home Saturday, January 3, 2026. She was born November 14, 1933, in Eden, North Carolina to the late Moses Roscoe Smith and Melva Lee Wright Smith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tom Morton; her daughter in law, Wanda Morton, her son, Tom Junior Morton; sister, Mildred Kendrick; and brothers, Eugene Smith and Otha Smith.

Ruby was of the Baptist faith and spent many years working hard and caring for others. She served the Henry County Public Schools for ten years as a bus aide, a role that truly fit her caring heart, then later she was employed by Tultex for fifteen years showing true dedication. Ruby loved her boys deeply and found joy in gardening and tending her flowers. She was a caring, loving mother, and the love she poured into her family will always be a part of her legacy.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Michael Morton, Wayne Morton, Ricky Morton; sister, Hazel Willis; brother, Larry Smith; grandchildren, Shauna Morton, Tony Morton, Tiffany Morton Campbell, Scottie Morton; seven great grandchildren; and numerous extended family and friends.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Mountain View Cemetery with Pastor Robby Benefield Officiating. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and support that has been shown during their time of grief.
