The New College Institute has appointed board member Richard Hall to represent the school in a mediation with its foundation. The two entities have been entangled in a dysfunctional relationship for years and most recently the foundation has made efforts to distance itself from the school.

The Henry County Board of Zoning Appeals has denied a request for a Special Use Permit to construct a new camping facility on Lee Ford Camp Road on a little over 50 acres of land. The proposal would have provided a new venue about a mile north of Greensboro Road. Neighbors were opposed to the plan.

A federal judge has ordered West Virginia Governor Jim Justice’s $1 billion lawsuit with Carter Bank be heard in Roanoke instead of West Virginia. Carter Bank is seeking reimbursement of loans from the governor while Justice claims the bank has involved itself in unfair business practices to his detriment.

The local chamber of commerce held it post legislative update at NCI yesterday morning. Delegate Eric Phillips was the only representative that spoke. He said he expected the General Assembly to approve a budget when it met again on May 13.

A wedge of high pressure will keep low clouds and occasional rain showers or drizzle in the area through Saturday. Dry conditions and very warm temperatures return for the end of the weekend and remain into much of next week. Chances for rain increase Tuesday with a frontal passage. Additional scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible, mainly in the afternoon hours each day for the remainder of the work week.

Sports airs Monday through Saturday on WHEE.
