LOCAL NEWS:

The daily weather pattern will remain unsettled for much of the week with a daily threat of afternoon and evening thunderstorms through Thursday. Some storms could be severe. Drier and slightly cooler weather arrives for the weekend.

Can't be done. Even though President Biden has already signed the law which will force the sale of social media platform TikTok, the app's parent company ByteDance says such a divestiture would be impossible. On Tuesday, TikTok sued the U-S government over this. ABC News Senior White House Correspondent Selina Wang breaks down the tech company's case.

According to city officials, the development agreement between the Caesars Casino and Danville has changed. The biggest is the cost - jumping from $400 to $750 million. The entertainment center has grown from 35,000 to 40,000 square feet, but will no longer be a standalone venue; it will be in the conference center. The minimum number of employees has changed from 1,300 to a range between 900 and 1,300. The permanent facility is expected to open later this year.

Gas prices in Virginia are down three cents from last week. The national average is down a penny. Gas in Martinsville averaged $3.26 a gallon and in Henry County it was $3.32.

FRIDAY

Music Night: 5:30 p.m. (gate opens at 5 p.m.), Spencer Penn Centre; performance by Travis Frye and Blue Mountain; open informal bluegrass and oldtime open JAM before main band at 6:30 p.m.; admission is a $5 cash donation; concessions will be hot dogs, chicken salad, BBQ and homemade desserts.

Quarter Auction: 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.); Ridgeway Ruritan Club Quarter Auction with local vendors at the Ridgeway Ruritan Building on Magnolia Street. Admission is $5. Door prizes and 50/50 tickets are available for sale. Concessions including pizza, barbecue chicken sandwiches and homemade desserts will be available for purchase.

SATURDAY

Bassett Ruritan Club Breakfast: 6-10 a.m., 277 Philpott Dam Road. Sausage, fried bologna, eggs, made from scratch biscuits, sausage gravy, cooked apples, buckwheat and regular pancakes made to order, coffee and juice. All you can eat, $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Dine-in or carry-out.

Uptown Martinsville Farmers’ Market: 7:30 a.m. to noon, 65 W. Main St.; Saturdays through Nov. 16 and Wednesdays from July 10-Sept. 25.

MONDAY

TUESDAY

Chix with Sticks: 10:30 a.m., Piedmont Arts. Knitters are invited to work together in the Piedmont Arts classroom on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month. Sessions are self-guided and provide a space to socialize while creating. Bring your own supplies. Advanced registration required. Free to members, $5 for nonmembers who will pay at the door.
