Civil lawsuit in Patrick County dismissed

Five counts of a civil lawsuit filed by Patrick County Supervisor Steve Marshall against the Board of Supervisors were dismissed on April 27, and the final count was voluntarily withdrawn after a court hearing.

The suit alleged multiple Virginia FOIA violations, including unlawful closed sessions and the denial of public access.

Judge Marcus Brinks dismissed most claims but allowed one to proceed before a settlement was reached. Terms were not disclosed.

County officials called the outcome a win. Marshall had claimed reputational harm from a prior censure.
