Virginia State Police and local agencies will conduct a 24-hour safety initiative, “Operation Drive Safe 220,” on Friday along the busy U.S. 220 corridor.
Covering several counties, the effort targets speeding, distracted, and impaired driving, as well as seat belt violations—key causes of crashes on the accident-prone route.
Participating agencies include multiple sheriff’s offices, police departments, and the DMV.
Officials say the goal is to reduce crashes and raise awareness through increased enforcement. Motorists can expect heavy patrols and are urged to drive safely, obey speed limits, avoid distractions, and wear seat belts.
