Cold weather remains, choir director dies, Chipotle opens Wednesday

A cold weather advisory remains in effect until noon today with very cold wind chills as low as five below. Temperatures this cold could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Cold weather with below normal temperatures will persist the remainder of the week with the possibility of additional snow for Friday and Saturday due to a low pressure system off the North Carolina coast and more Arctic air that could bring additional low wind chills.

Katherine Currie Tuggle Neil, known in Martinsville as “Kitty Tuggle” the director of the legendary Martinsville Singing Men during the 1960s and 1970s, has died at the age of 94. Neil defined the Christmas season for generations in the region, and was a minister of music for various churches in Virginia and North Carolina for decades. She died Jan. 13 in Montreat, North Carolina.

Chipotle restaurant was scheduled to open the doors to its newest restaurant in Martinsville on Commonwealth Boulevard today, but the company has delayed the opening until tomorrow.

Henry County Sheriff Wayne Davis says he is considering an offer by the producers of the TV show “On Patrol Live,” to have his department featured. Last week he shared the news on social media and is asking for the public to comment as to whether he should participate. So far the response has been supportive.

The Virginia State Police have responded to an increase in all-terrain vehicles or ATVs on the roads after the storm. They remind everyone that it is illegal to ride them on the roads unless you have specific authorization from officials, or only on the road while crossing from one side to the other, or if you are in public safety and responding to an emergency.
