Obituaries

Barbara Ann Ayers, 88, of Ridgeway, Virginia passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2024. She was born January 19, 1936, in Rural Hall, North Carolina to the late Charlie Woodrow Young and Blanche Marie Hudson Young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bobby Ray Young and Clinton Woodrow “CW” Young.

Barbara moved from Rural Hall, North Carolina to Bassett, Virginia in 1949. Her feisty personality and loving spirit was much larger than she was. She was dedicated to the trucking industry for more than fifty years; with the handle “Sugar Britches”. Barbara was owner/operator of Ridgeway Produce Trucking for forty of those years. She ended her career in the trucking industry working with Fleetmaster in Eden, North Carolina. Barbara enjoyed her job where she was able to travel and take photographs of her memories. Barbara loved her dogs, and her family was her greatest treasure.

She is survived by her nieces, Tammie Young Shelton (James) and Kim Sikes; nephews, Travis Young, Todd Young, Robert Young (Patricia), Mark Young (Jane); several great-nieces and great nephews; and extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service with Reverend A.C. Palmer officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia. A visitation will held one hour prior to the service. There will also be a visitation at the home of Todd Young at 183 Ashley Loop Eden, North Carolina from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024.
