Obituaries

James Lowell Grant, 80, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered his eternal rest Sunday, January 18, 2026, at his home. He was born on March 21, 1945, in Martinsville to the late James Norton Grant and Lorraine Wade Grant.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Edna Carol Grant Scearce, nephew, Ronald Wayne Scearce; great-nephew, Jeffery Dean Scearce, Jr., paternal grandparents, Earnest Lenford Grant and Betty Susie Hiatt Grant; and maternal grandparents, Charles Decator Wade and Emma Lee Richardson Wade.

A man of Christian faith, James was very kind-hearted. He was a graduate of Martinsville High School, Class of 1963, and was an avid Washington Redskins football fan. He worked many jobs in the community and particularly enjoyed his job as a greeter at Walmart in Mayodan, North Carolina, where he worked during his retirement. In his leisure time, he liked watching wrestling and Storage Wars. He was a regular patron at D&A Café and loved dogs. Although his earthly presence is no longer here, his legacy of gentle strength and kindness will always be remembered.

He is survived by his nephews, Bobby Gene Scearce (Carolyn) Jeffrey Dean Scearce, Sr. (Debra); great-nieces, Whitney Myers (Jason), Angela Scearce; great-nephew, Trinity Scearce; and many extended family and friends.

A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Roselawn Burial Park, located at 103 Clearview Drive, Martinsville, Virginia 24112, with Pastor David Shelton officiating.
