Obituaries

Joshua David Foster, 34, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia, on July 16, 1991, to Veronica Elaine Swinney Foster and the late David William Foster.

In addition to his father, Joshua was preceded in death by his sister, Ashlee Renay Foster; his paternal grandmother, Ruby Foster; and his maternal grandfather, James R. Swinney.

Josh was a man of Christian faith who found strength and comfort in Christ. He took great pride in becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant and had a genuine love and compassion for taking care of others. Blessed with a beautiful voice, Josh loved to sing soulful songs and found joy in performing karaoke alongside his close friends. He was truly the “life of the party” – wherever he went, his infectious smile and larger-than-life personality could brighten any room. Josh made friends easily and had an incredible gift for making people laugh. Also, a diehard Carolina Panthers fan, he enjoyed watching games and cheering them on. He had a huge heart and cared deeply for those around him, sharing an especially close bond with his mother, who always held a uniquely special place in his heart.

Along with his mother, those left to cherish his memory are his brother, Dustin William Foster (Tonya); his maternal grandmother, Charlotte F. Swinney; his uncle, Robert “Toot” Swinney; his aunts, Pam Barbour, Diane Carter, and Rhonda Handy (John); his nieces, Amber and Brittany; his nephews, Isaiah and Xavier; his great-nieces, Patience and Magnolia; his great-nephew, August; a close cousin, Cassandra Foster; and a large network of extended family and many dear friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service – Martinsville Chapel.
