Obituaries

Lorie Ann Spencer Turner, 61, of Stuart, Virginia, went home to be with her Heavenly Father Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She was born February 8, 1964, in Martinsville, Virginia, to Clarence “Bud” Spencer and the late Shirley Mae Hoyle Pierce.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ada Carter Spencer, Woodrow Spencer; step-mother, Jane Spencer; aunt and uncle, Hubert and Shirley Ashley.

Lorie was of the Christian faith and a member of Faith Fellowship of Bassett, Virginia, where she found a wonderful faith community. She had a love for helping others and found fulfilment as a teacher and library assistant at Woolwine Elementary School where she worked for many years. She made a lasting impact on her students who became her Woolwine family. Lorie truly loved people; she was kind, giving, and always made sure others felt loved, welcomed, and cared for. She was a wonderful mother who loved her son and all of her family dearly, and she enjoyed spending time with each of them. Her days were filled with the joy of simple pleasures. She could often be found watching hummingbirds and squirrels from her window or watching her favorite television shows like NCIS, Heartland, or Harry Potter movies. There was no greater joy for Lorie than to see her son, Brandon grow up and to watch him play baseball.

She is survived by her loving husband, Michael “Mike” Turner; son, Brandon Turner (Samantha); sisters, Barbara Spencer (Greg), and Tina Kendrick (Gary); brothers, Joe Pierce (Susie), and Jon Pierce (Heather); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

The funeral will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 4:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Bassett Chapel, 1230 Oak Level Road, Bassett, Virginia 24055 with Pastor Freddie Bonds officiating. Interment will follow at Turner Family Cemetery, Stones Dairy Road, Bassett, Virginia 24055. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
