Obituaries

Mark Allen Hess, 60, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away at his residence Wednesday, January 14, 2026. He was born in Martinsville, Virginia, on December 11, 1965, to Geneva Ellen Simpkins Hess and the late Paul Edward Hess.

Mark worked for Branch Highway Construction for many years as a guardrail installer. In his leisure time he enjoyed being outdoors and especially loved fishing and camping. He was a sports fan who was loyal to the Kansas City Chiefs. Mark enjoyed spending time with his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter, Jessica Dawn Hess; sisters, Sandra Prillaman (Barry), Margaret Hess; several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A funeral service will be held Sunday, January 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel with Pastor Ronnie Hess officiating. Interment will follow at Fair Haven Memorial Park. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
