Warming trend continues into the weekend

The warming trend that began yesterday continues into the weekend. A weak front will bring a chance of rain tonight and on Monday as it passes. Increasing clouds and breezy today with gusts up to 20 mph and a high of 70. There’s a 30% chance of scattered showers tonight, with mostly cloudy skies and a low of 52. Saturday will be partly sunny with a high near 76.

Friday

Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild meeting: 9:30 a.m. on the first Tuesday and third Friday of each month, and at 6:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at Piedmont Arts.

Pour Decisions, Snowman Wineglass Edition: 1 p.m., Martinsville Main Library. Turn wine glasses into adorable snowmen with this winter-themed craft. Call 276-403-5430 to register.

Cascade School Community Center Music and Dance: 7-9:30 p.m., 3561 Huntington Trail, Cascade, with Bullet Band. $10.

Karaoke night: 9-11:30 p.m., Wild Magnolia. Singers of all skill levels — good, bad, or somewhere in between — are invited to take the stage, or cheer on friends and fellow performers. (Every Friday).

Saturday

Community Breakfast: 8:30-10 a.m., Ridgeway Methodist Church. Breakfast is held on the third Saturday of each month.

Dropping the Shield: 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m., Martinsville High School. This program focuses on first responder mental health and the importance of changing the culture surrounding stress, trauma, and emotional wellness. The special guest speaker will be Fire Lt. Ret. Kenny Mitchell Jr., national speaker, podcast host, and founder of Operation Yellow Tape. The event is hosted by the MHC Professional Fire and EMS Association Local 5166. Free of charge. CE hours will be offered to EMS providers.

Dan River Basin Association’s Annual Celebration: 9:45 a.m. doors open, 10 a.m. program begins, Stuart Rotary Club, 264 Woodland Dr., Stuart. Grab a plate of delicious food, mingle, and check out displays highlighting projects. This year’s keynote speaker is Louise Finger with the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources.

Three-pasta dinner: 4-6 p.m., Rangeley Ruritan Club, 134 Calloway Drive, Fieldale. Includes three pastas (lasagna, pesto, and alfredo cheese tortellini – mix and match), salad, dessert, and drink for $15. Eat in or take out. Proceeds go toward community projects.

FurBall 2026: 6 p.m., Chatmoss Country Club. Dinner, open bar, auction, and live music by Spare Change. This event supports shelter animals through the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA. Come dressed as your favorite character from the page or screen at this entirely Novel event.

Maui Mt. Airy Ukulele Invasion: 3:30-6 p.m., Historic Star Theatre, Stuart. This event is free.

Chix with Stix: 10:30 a.m., knitters meet at Piedmont Arts to work on individual projects on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. The public is invited—$5.

Community Bible Study: 11 a.m.-12 p.m., Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church, 120 Old Bassett Heights Road, Bassett, in the fellowship hall. This is a gathering of Christians of various denominations for Bible study. (Every Wednesday).

Collecting cash from credit: 12 p.m.- 2 p.m. Patrick County site. This course will teach you how to collect your cash from credit. Cost $30, P&HCC at ph.augusoft.net.
