Smith Mountain Lake has fallen about four feet below its normal level, exposing rocks and shoreline areas that are usually underwater. Bedford Water has issued a voluntary conservation alert, citing severe drought conditions after lake levels dropped below a key benchmark. Communications Manager Kyle Draper said the lake, which is considered full at 795 feet, was recently measured at about 791 feet. Draper noted it has been roughly 20 years since the lake was this low.
