Kim Novak is speaking out about the upcoming drama Scandalous, saying she would have “never approved” the film about her relationship with Sammy Davis Jr., which is set to star Sydney Sweeney as Novak.
Novak told The Times of London in an interview that was published on Friday that Sweeney “sticks out so much above the waist.”
She also expressed concern that the film would focus too heavily on the sexual side of her relationship with Davis Jr. rather than their personal connection.
“There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time,” Novak said. “She was totally wrong to play me.”
ABC News has reached out to Sweeney’s representative, but did not hear back immediately.
The project was first reported by Deadline in October 2024, with Colman Domingo attached to direct and Miramax developing the film. In addition to Sweeney, David Jonsson is set to star as Davis Jr.
In contrast to Novak’s comments, Sweeney told People in October 2025 that she is “incredibly honored” to take on the role.
“I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image,” she said at the time. “And I think that for me, I relate to it in a lot of different ways.”
Novak and Davis Jr. first met in 1956 when they both appeared as guests on The Steve Allen Show.
Their relationship became public in 1958 after a Chicago newspaper columnist reported on their romance and suggested they might marry, according to Hitchcock’s Blondes: The Unforgettable Women Behind the Legendary Director’s Dark Obsession by Laurence Leamer.
Novak denied the report, and days later, Davis Jr. married singer Loray White; their marriage lasted about a year.
Novak later married actor Richard Johnson in 1965, and after their divorce, she went on to marry veterinarian Robert Malloy in 1976. The couple remained together until he died in 2021.

Netflix has cooked up a premiere date for Beef season 2.
The popular Emmy-winning anthology series from A24 and creator Lee Sung Jinarrives to the streaming service on April 16.
This season features a brand-new story with a completely different cast of characters. The indecent that sparks it all is a young couple witnessing a fight between their boss and his wife. This all triggers a game of chess featuring favors, coercion, and the elitist world of a country club and its billionaire owner.
Oscar Isaac stars alongside Carey Mulligan in the season. They play characters named Josh and Lindsay, while Charles Melton and Cailee Spaeny star as characters named Austin and Ashley.
The cast also includes Youn Yuh-jung as Chairwoman Park, Song Kang-ho as Dr. Kim, Seoyeon Jang as Eunice, William Fichtner as Troy, Mikaela Hoover as Ava and the musician BM in his acting debut as Woosh.
There will be eight 30-minute episodes in season 2. Lee returns as its creator, showrunner and executive producer. The first season’s stars, Steven Yeun and Ali Wong, also return to executive produce season 2, joined by Mulligan, Isaac, Melton and Spaeny as executive producers.
Season 1 of Beef won eight Emmy Awards, including limited or anthology series, lead actor in a limited or anthology series for Yeun and lead actress in a limited or anthology series for Wong.

(SPOILER ALERT) You won’t have to leave the cottage anytime soon. Heated Rivalry author Rachel Reid has announced that the seventh book in her Game Changers hockey romance series is coming this fall.
The book, titled Unrivaled, will be the third book focusing on Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov — the characters played by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie in the popular Heated Rivalry TV adaptation on HBO Max.
Unrivaled picks up where Heated Rivalry’s sequel The Long Game left off, with — spoiler alert — Shane and Ilya playing on the same hockey team as a married couple. According to the book’s description, they’ll have to face growing backlash to their relationship now that they’ve gone public.
Unrivaled is available for preorder now and is set for a Sept. 29 release.
Meanwhile, the show’s stars continue to rise. Williams and Storrie presented at the Golden Globes Sunday night; Storrie is booked for appearances on Late Night with Seth Meyers Monday and the Today show on Wednesday.
Heated Rivalry has been picked up for a second season, which will follow the events of The Long Game.
