The New College Institute board is expected to consider soon a resolution that would result in them turning over the keys to the Patrick & Henry Community College and form the Center for Workforce and Economic Development at the Baldwin Building.
NCI has been under pressure to be defunded by the Governor’s Office for some time, and despite efforts to catch up to the challenges of higher education post-COVID, state officials have expressed concern about continuing to support the institute.
Former mayor and current NCI board member Mark Crabtree said he drafted the resolution and gained a consensus among board members and stakeholders.
