Obituaries

Billy Shelton, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia, entered his eternal rest Saturday, May 30, 2026. He was born on August 28, 1944, in Fieldale, Virginia, to George Sam Shelton, Sr. and Rosie Lee France Shelton, both deceased.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Brown Shelton; son, Adrian Hairston; sisters, Phyllis Jean Holland, Sally Drummond, and his twin sister, Barbara Shelton Prunty; brothers, George Sam Shelton, Jr., James A. Shelton, Gerald Shelton; and one grandchild, DeMarquis Gilbert.

Billy was of the Christian faith and attended Bible Way Greater Assurance. He was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School, and owned his own business, Shelton Cleaning Service, for thirty-five years. Billy was a social butterfly and an avid golf fan. He particularly enjoyed watching his favorite golfer, Tiger Woods.

He is survived by his daughters, Tanya N. McCoy (Kevin), Kimberly Shelton, Donna B. Carter (Cedric); sons, Jerome Shelton, Keith Shelton (Georgette), Trevor Shelton, Monty Brown, Bobby Brown (Charlene); twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 6, 2026, at noon at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel. Visitation will be held one-half hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will take place at the funeral home on Friday, June 5, 2025, from 2:00-5:00 PM. Burial will be private.
