Obituaries

Carolyn Sue Smith Bowman, 79, of Ridgeway, Virginia, transitioned to her heavenly home Friday, March 21, 2025. She was born January 23, 1946, to the late Charlie Robert Smith and Janie Jewell Smith in Richlands, Virginia.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Verlon Elmo Bowman; son, Verlon Elmo Bowman, Jr.; brothers, Roger Smith and Bobby Smith.

She was of the Christian faith and a faithful member of New Life Community Church in Ridgeway, Virginia. She found great joy in spending time with those whom she loved. She was active for many years and enjoyed being outdoors. She could always be found in her favorite places doing the things she loved most: traveling, going to the beach, playing golf, swimming, and camping. Carolyn enjoyed being indoors as well and found relaxation in playing card games, cheering on the Dallas Cowboys during football season, listening to music, cooking, and shopping. Many knew of her love for all things related to Christmas. The holiday season was her favorite time of the year, and she always found time to enjoy Hallmark Christmas movies. Carolyn was known for her hard work and dedication to anything she put her mind to do. Her determination was seen in her dedicated employment with Diversified Distribution, Inc. where she worked 20 years as a supervisor. Her life has left a lasting impression on this earth, and she will always be fondly remembered.

She is survived by her daughter, Deborah Clark (Gary); sister, Linda Smith Sizemore; grandchildren, Brice Lankford, Jonathan Bowman; bonus grandchildren, Jonathan Clark (Kim), Stephanie Shelton; four great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Terry Knighten and Pastor Jimmy Foster officiating. Interment will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway, Virginia. A visitation will be held Monday, March 24, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
