Obituaries

Mrs. Cynthia Joyce Gladden, 85, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2026. She was born on May 16, 1941, in Keene, New Hampshire, to the late John Bell and Lulu Harnet Pendleton Bell.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Gladden; her sister, JoAn Bell; and her brother, John Eric Bell.

A member of the Martinsville Seventh-day Adventist Church. Throughout her life, she dedicated herself to caring for others, serving as a secretary at For the Children, most importantly, as a loving homemaker and caregiver to her family. Her compassionate spirit extended beyond her own household as she lovingly served as a foster parent to 18 children, providing guidance, support, and a nurturing home to those in need.

She is survived by her son, Randall Gladden (Tia); her sister, Arlene Hall; her grandchild, Erielle Dexter; her great-grandchildren, Logan Dexter and Lia Dexter; and a host of extended family members, friends, and loved ones.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
