Obituaries

Mr. Derrick Lamont Edwards, of Richmond, Virginia, was called home on Thursday, September 15, 2022. He was a loving brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend, and will be missed immeasurably.

Derrick was born on August 14, 1959 to the late William Carl Edwards and Vergie Hairston Edwards. He was educated in the Martinsville City School System, earning a GED later in life. Throughout his years in Martinsville, he developed many lasting friendships. He was an avid sports fan, especially football, and he enjoyed a wide variety of music.

For the past ten years, Derrick lived in Richmond, Virginia, where he enjoyed building a different life and establishing even more lasting friendships. He made a lasting impression on all he encountered.

Derrick leaves to cherish his memory four sisters: Yvonne E. Washington, Anthonette D. Scales, Aleta E. Young and Stephanie E. Deshazo; a cousin/brother: James O. Edwards, Jr.; two nieces: Jessica Y. Washington and NeAirra B. Chisholm; seven nephews: Christopher J. Scales, Brandon M. Scales, Damien J. Scales, Jeffrey “Brion” Young, Isaiah D. Young, Ja’Ryan M. Young and Jolen C. Schoefield; two great nieces: Taliyah D. Romig and Bailey G. Young; three great nephews: Tyron D. Scales, Bentley M. Scales and Brion “Gavyn” Young; two aunts, Ida D. Reed and Josie B. Edwards: one uncle, James J. Hairston (Yvette); a very special friend: Melissa Moore; and his “grandbabies”; Destiny Hodges, Matthew Spencer, Cameron Moore, Riley Moore, Destiny Richmond, Trinity Moore, Deshawn Moore, Carmen Mebane, Michael Moore, Taylor Moore and Santoine Mebane; and a host of cousins and friends.

A floating visitation will be Saturday, October 1, 2022 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel. The funeral will be Sunday, October 2, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
