Obituary For Edgar "Ronnie" Oliver

Edgar “Ronnie” Oliver, 76, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025. He was born on February 25, 1949, in Franklin County, Virginia, to the late Edgar Clinard Oliver and Annie Sue Robertson Oliver.

In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his loving wife, Karen Elizabeth Oliver; his son, Kevin Dewayne Oliver; four sisters, Sue Pearson, Wanda Conner, Faye Belton, and Shirlanne Dehart; and seven brothers, Donnie Oliver, Dale Oliver, Bobby Oliver, Marion Oliver, Richard Oliver, Leonard Oliver, and Lawrence Oliver.

Ronnie had a deep love for music and enjoyed playing the guitar and banjo. He was also a devoted fan of classic Westerns, especially “Gunsmoke,” but nothing brought him more joy than spending time with his grandchildren. He retired from Bassett Printing after 40 plus years of dedicated service and was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Ronnie will be remembered for his feisty spirit and the warmth he shared with those around him.

He is survived by his son, Ronald “Keith” Oliver (Melody); two daughters, Marla Oliver Fretwell (Brian) and Amber Oliver Hundley; grandchildren, Megan Oliver Haak (Jordan), Madalyn “Maddy” Oliver (Nicole), Peyton Nicole Lewis (Ethan), Parker Ross Hundley, and MaKennah Paige Hundley; one brother, Thomas Wayne Oliver; a special son-in-law, Jeremy Hundley; a special friend/caretaker, Jordan “Gordon” Tilley and a host of other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel. The burial will be held at a later date at Henry Memorial Park. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bassett Funeral Service Chapel.
